The climbing site I'm on has a bulletin board. I'm on there as Sarahlizzy, which is the online ID I use most of the time these days (I have another one which I use on some sites which is stealth, and I'm not revealing that). I occasionally contribute to threads and usually either get no reply at all, or get a few short (but usually helpful) replies.

At the suggestion of [livejournal.com profile] the_local_echo, I got a profile picture. It's a bigger version of the bouldering icon which I use in this post (which I guess makes it look like I'm falling - I'm not, I'm actually in the middle of a knee drop move on my way up - I just thought it looked cool).

So I add the profile picture, and contribute a bit to a thread. For the first time a guy replies and offers to meet me at a climbing wall (as well as providing useful advice).

Then I mention I might not be there again for a while, apart from when taking the kids climbing (I neglect to mention they're [livejournal.com profile] zoeimogen's kids). Upon doing that, radio silence resumes.

Which I thought was interesting.

In other news I've been invited to a reunion dinner by my Cambridge college in September - big posh black tie event. I'm definitely going to that, suitably attired in a little black dress and straight from the hairdresser. That could prove highly entertaining.

Because anytime a woman puts up a picture of herself on the internet it's totally a signal for all guys everywhere to start hitting on her. And if she complains, it's her fault for "misleading" the poor guys who have no self-control whatsoever, because they're men and they're built that way. It's not their fault. And if you have kids, you're trying to "trap" them.

With regard to your college reunion, it occurs to me that if I wanted to get the same effect, I'd have to go dressed up as a bloke.....

Um......think I'll pass on that one :o)

I am actually so regretting getting rid of my formal suit. Bit of re-tailoring and I'd look so hot in it :-D

As a girl who made a habit of going to college balls in smart black trousers, silky camisole and a DJ (and sometimes even a bow tie), I agree! I was sick of paying the same as the blokes and then not being able to do all the fun stuff because I was stuck in a ball dress. Plus I looked better in the DJ.

:-)

If I knew how to do it I would make you a wikipedia page all about the 'The Intrepid Sarah Brown' in the vogue of 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown'
