Dear BBC headline writers:

Aluminium doesn't rust!

The article shows that the person quoted actually used the word, "corrosion".

Perhaps it was a cast iron plane. :-)

Alternatively, they are quite right: it wasn't caused by rust. It was also not caused by miniature swamp aliens from the planet Zarg.

They've updated the page now, anyway :-)

I sent them an "Aluminium doesn't rust" email at the same time I posted the entry here. Wonder if I was the only one?

And I'm going on holiday to the US soon. I hope they check very thoroughly for swamp aliens before takeoff!

That was my first thought. Its not 'technically' an error...

it just isn't exactly news, either. :-)

Although I'm not *entirely* convinced it wasn't the Zargians, damn them.

:-)

I read this about the same time I looked at the BBC feed on my RSS reader and noticed that.

That'd be wicked awesomely steampunk, wouldn't it?

On the plus side, at least it is technically an accurate headline, albeit not a particularly informative one.

Bah, BBC 'science' journalists might once have walked past the science block at school...
Then again, the BBC News webshite doesn't seem to employ any journalists anyway, only Media Studies graduates...
