Meet My New Friend!

Imagine my delight when I see this turn up in my inbox this Sunday lunchtime:

How truly nice it is to be wanted, but I have no idea why the sudden interest. The S'onewall awards are coming up soon and perhaps they've nominated her for one of their awards for services to canapés again. We don't actually know as they've decided not to publish the list of nominees this year, which was probably easier than going to all the trouble of adopting some sort of pesky anti-transphobia stance in public.

As for the 3 mutual friends, at least two of them are trans activists of my personal acquaintance, presumably keeping tabs on her or something - whatever, *clickety click*. There - ignored.

So you're living in a lesbian remake of You've Got Mail. Roll with it.

Or don't.

:)

She's got a lot of fucking nerve hasn't she?!

Write viotrolic articles telling us that we don't even know of our own minds and bodies and that surgery shouldn't be an option - we just need some therapy.

Have prawn sandwiches over an interview with one-time people that represent our interests, and whilst being all 'nice and lovely' also refuses to accept the gender of the person she is being interviewed by.

And now, she wants to be your FB friend, coz, 'the political isn't personal' is it?!!

Good grief.

It's a shame that instead of just having 'Ignore request' it had a 'positively refuse your request' option too :)

Oi! Stop talking about me on other people's journals! :-p lol

Now of course she's going to threaten to sue you for not friending you. How could you be so mean to the poor oppressed ciswoman?

[identity profile] fierceawakening.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] techiebabe.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, my ribs!

As for the 3 mutual friends, at least two of them are trans activists

Don't you have a strategy for dealing with tranny chasers? ;-)

Erm.

I'm sorry - what?

Why for F's sake. I mean if she wanted to 'bury the hatchet' there are far more less socially inept ways of getting in contact.

The only thing I can think of is now when she writes about stuff in the future she can talk about how she 'tried' to be friends and got summarily ignored by you on Facebook. But perhaps that's not very nice of me to think that.

Oh and I hope your computer screen has now recovered from the tea spray that no doubt resulted from you opening your in-box.

I take the view that whatever it is she wants, it's unlikely to be a *good* thing for me and other trans people, so the best policy is to not engage her.

Not quite sure I could bring myself to deploy it in this case :-D

[identity profile] krissie-r.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Unsuprisingly, I'm pretty certain that you're right there.

As for a policy of non-engagement, I think so - the only way to win is to deny it battle (OK, so that was Stargate, but hey - it's still true.)
