Things are moving
Dec. 22nd, 2005 01:34 pmWent to see my GP this morning to ask about speech therapy and sperm storage, and pick up a copy of my blood test results.
He's going to look into the speech therapy, but the NHS won't store my sperm for me. He did give me the name of a private fertility clinic that I could contact though.
Got home to find a huge pile of mail. Letters from my credit card companies returning my documentation and promising new cards shortly, and an actual new debit card from my bank!
When I opened that, I just squealed with delight non-stop for about 5 minutes. I'm starting to get my identity back, and I don't have to cringe in embarrassment any more by paying for things with a bank card in his name. Superb!
I phoned the fertility clinic and explained the situation. They sounded a bit boggled. They're going to phone me back.
Looked through the blood test results (for Mr Sarah Brown - funny). Apart from one thing, everything is normal. My cholesterol results in particular are amazingly good. This pleases me.
The one thing that isn't normal is my serum prolactin level. It is, however, within the normal range for a female.
A quick bit of googling followed. Prolactin is released by the pituitary. This release is apparently prompted by Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). GnRH is produced by the hypothalamus, and the hypothalamus is one of those bits of the brain that appears to be sexually dimorphic in humans, with some evidence that MTF transsexuals follow the female distribution. How curious.
UPDATE: The fertility clinc phoned me back. They'll apparently be happy to freeze my sperm, but will need to do some tests first (What is your name? A Sperm. Which way is the egg? Up the fallopian tube. Congratulations you have passed a) your sperm exam and b) on 23 chromosomes). They're sending me some info.
