I thought the whole idea of a panel of doctors deciding how to label her was horrible.
I'm afraid my first reaction *was* "Why not just check the chromosomes?". Not because I think that defines someone as male or female, but because it's simple, quick, cheap and objective. And athletes could have it checked early in their careers, to prevent this kind of hassle.
Although that might mean some renaming of the events: "We now have the XXY 100 metre sprint"...
